Hiking Adventures in Giant Rock Formations

My (Jenn) parents came to visit us over Labor Day Weekend!! We had so much fun with them! On Saturday, we drove out to a really neat national park. The park has these amazing valleys and hills covered in giant vertical rock formations that are believed to be the result of a giant volcanic eruption millions of years ago. The ash from the eruption hardened and then has been worn away and eroded over the years to create the formations we see today! How neat is that!?

I loved how blue the sky was there! None of these photos have been edited, so the blue of the sky is real. It was amazing!

We saw lots of lizards, which Mike really enjoyed taking photos of. We have lizards around where we live too, but these ones were larger and more colorful. They were also sunning themselves on the rocks, so they were easier to capture in a photo - the ones near us are very skittish.

We went on an 8-9 mile hike down into a valley and then up the other side and around and in the rock formations. We saw some great views of the valleys and mountains and of course of the massive rocks.

It was a really great hike and the best way to really experience the rocks. The pictures can't do them justice. It was a really, really amazing place to visit! I am so glad we went. I've never seen anything like it!!

  1. That's so neat! Where is this? I'm always looking for places to take my parents when they visit.
