Adventures in Bread Making

This weekend we tried out another great recipe from our go-to food blog Budget Bytes. We planned to make the Spinach Feta Grilled Cheese and that took us to the Homemade Focaccia. Unfortunately, we forgot to start the focaccia on Friday night, so we made it on Sunday instead and had the grilled cheese on regular bread on Saturday. But, the focaccia recipe is so simple and so delicious that we are thrilled we remembered (eventually) to make it!

We've never made bread from scratch before, so this was quite the adventure. But, as in all of her recipes, the amazing Beth of Budget Bytes made our foray into bread making quite simple and fun. The focaccia came out wonderfully and made our apartment smell divine!! At least until we did the cleaning when the mix of lavender pine sol and Italian seasoned bread was not so appealing.

We'll definitely be making this recipe again. The one thing we'll do differently is more evenly spread out the dough on the baking tray before putting it in the oven. Also, we only got 8 slices out of it rather than 12. There are several other bread recipes on Budget Bytes we're itching to try - honey wheat sandwich bread and chocolate cinnamon swirl bread! Yum!

We made a quick dipping sauce using olive oil, pepper, salt, Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes. Delicious!!

Have you tried bread making before? What's your go-to recipe?
